Brief Bio:
Dr. Matthias Kluge is an observational astronomer working at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE). He received his Ph.D. in astrophysics in 2020 from the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich on the "Structure of Brightest Cluster Galaxies and Intracluster Light".
Being part of the eROSITA cluster and cosmology working group, his current research focuses on the optical confirmation of galaxy cluster candidates identified by the eROSITA instrument. Additionally, he is also interested in Intracluster Light (ICL), which is the extended diffuse optical light found in galaxy clusters. Kluge's research on ICL aims to understand the properties and origins of this light and its relationship with overall clusters properties. The work is based on deep optical imaging and spectroscopy.
